If you spend much time on Instagram looking at plant pages or hashtags, it won’t take long before you’ve spotted a Pilea Peperomioides. These fun plants are all the rage right now on social media and houseplant blogs and communities. So now that you’ve seen it, you want it! But where can you buy one of these loveable plants for yourself?
Where can you buy a Pilea Peperomioides? Pileas can be found in lots of places online, as well as in stores. Online, the easiest place to find a Pilea that can ship to your door is on Etsy. If you want to pick one out in person, your best bet will be at a local nursery or specialty plant shop.
I have quite a few Pileas in my collection, and they all came from different places. My very first Pilea was ordered on the internet, but since then, I’ve had the pleasure to also pick up a few in stores. No matter where you find it, I think you’ll be happy once you do.

What You Should Expect to Pay (Size Matters)

As with all online purchases, I recommend reading reviews before placing an order, as reviews can alert you to potential issues with a supplier and point out the most reliable options.
Etsy
My favorite place to buy plants online is definitely Etsy. I’ve purchased all kinds of plants, from Monstera cuttings to large Rubber Trees, on Etsy, and have had very few issues. Etsy is full of people selling Pileas. This will be the place with the largest variety of sizes, shapes, and sellers.
Etsy is a marketplace for individual shops. That means when you make a purchase on Etsy, you are buying from an individual, not from Etsy itself. There are no Etsy warehouses. Each item is created, curated, and shipped by shop owners around the globe. Etsy is the site that brings them all together. For this reason, I always read reviews of individual shops before purchasing.
When it comes to shipping, the seller will set the cost, which means it will vary depending on the shop. Be sure to keep your eye on shipping charges before placing your order, so you’re not surprised by the final price.
The Sill
When it comes to buying from an online nursery, The Sill is the crème de la crème. Not only does The Sill sell absolutely beautiful plants, but they’ve got fantastic customer service and a very helpful website too. No need to read reviews for The Sill. They have incredibly high quality control, so you can always be sure that what you get will look like the picture online.
The other thing I love about buying plants from The Sill is that you can choose the pot you want it planted in, and they will go ahead and transplant it before they send it your way. If you prefer to choose your own container, you can always choose the “nursery pot” option and save a little bit of money.
Amazon
Believe it or not, you can actually purchase beautiful live plants on Amazon. Like Etsy, Amazon is made up of individual sellers who all come together on the Amazon platform, so it will be essential to read the reviews for the product before purchasing.
Nurseries like Optifloria have been selling live plants on Amazon for years and have developed excellent reputations for themselves. And by purchasing a Pilea from Amazon, you’ll be able to get free shipping (if you are already an Amazon Prime member).
Home Depot
In their local stores, you will probably be hard-pressed to find a Pilea Peperomioides. However, Home Depot has a ton of hard-to-find house plants available to ship to your door online. Pileas are one of the plants that they almost always have in stock.
In my experience, the price is higher on the Home Depot site than on the other online options I’ve outlined above. Still, if you feel more comfortable buying from a store, you know, Home Depot might be your best option.
Buying Pileas in Store
If you would rather wait until you can pick your Pilea out in person, you’ll want to find a shop in your hometown. While you can’t usually find a Pilea on the shelves of your local big-box stores like Walmart or Lowes, there are other places you can look.
Let me start by saying that I do not live in a metropolitan area. People in large cities will usually have an easy time finding a small, specialty plant shop they can purchase a Pilea from. But what about those of us who are in more rural areas?
Until I started looking for them, I was totally unaware of the plant shops in my area. These usually aren’t the type of shop that you’ll hear all your coworkers talking about over lunch. But within most communities (or within an hour drive), you should be able to find some type of nursery or plant shop to make your purchase. Start asking around or look on Facebook for shops in your local area, and you’ll be surprised what you can find.
Picking out Pileas in person is way more fun than ordering them online. Plus, you’ll have a more stress-free experience when you can eliminate the uncertainty (and cost) of shipping a live plant.
Local Nurseries
In most towns, there will be at least one locally owned nursery where you can buy flowers, trees, bushes, and, hopefully, houseplants. Even if they are not known for having specialty houseplants, there is a decent chance that they’ll carry a few. And now that the Pilea is becoming so popular, your odds of finding them in this type of shop are pretty high.
Specialty Plant Shops
Even in my small town, I found that there are two specialty plant shops that I can drive to in about half an hour. Each of these shops carries different types of inventory, and both of them almost always have Pileas.
The beauty of the small plant shop is that even if they do not currently carry Pilea Peperomioides, they can most likely order one or at least point you in the right direction. Plus, the owners and other people who hang around these small plant shops are a wealth of information on caring for plants and local houseplant communities.
